Nourish Well Through the Holidays


To nourish means to sustain life. You can sustain life with air, water, and food. I'm guessing however you are reading this because you want to do more than sustain life, you want to live well.


This is why we are taking a few moments every day to ensure we are celebrating in the well state, not the stress state. This month can easily keep us in the stress state. We can easily be in the mindset of surviving until January. But if you are looking to live well, even when life is stressful, this is the ideal month to practice! That is why I am sharing brief, whole-person, science-based tips for shifting to the well state.


The dichotomy between December and January in our culture always amazes me. This month we are flooded with ideas for foods that would be labeled "unhealthy". As soon as we flip the calendar, we are flooded with messages about foods that are labeled "healthy".


But what it means to be healthy is not only complicated, it's counterintuitive. Studies show labeling a food as healthy can actually cause us to avoid choosing it! Our mindset about eating healthy is skewed by our thoughts and experiences with dieting, and indulging, and the media messages about both.


The bigger problem, in my professional and personal experience, is that we have become so hyper-focused on trying to find the right foods to protect us from illness, give us energy, and lose weight, that we have disconnected from what it means to Nourish Well.


If nourishing means to sustain life, and being healthy means not just staying alive but thriving, then you need to nourish your whole person. You do this by knowing how to Be Well Now, trusting what you know inside your whole person as your guide.


Ready to nourish well through the holidays? As we enter the second half of December you are surrounded by more and more foods that are deemed 'unhealthy'. Our Celebrating December Well posts are here to keep you focused on Nourishing Well; mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
