Nourish Your Spiritual Wellbeing
What does spiritual well-being mean to you?
The word spiritual has different meanings to different people. This part of us can be expressed through a religious practice, but it is not the religion that makes you spiritual. A key element that turns an activity into spiritual nourishment is how it connects you to what you know in the center of your body.
The spiritual element of your well-being is the part that knows what matters to you, what you value, and what gives your life meaning and purpose. It is the part that can connect to something greater than yourself, that non-tangible sense of being. You know this information, but it's not mental knowing, it is wordless wisdom in your body.
During December, there are many opportunities to nourish spiritual well-being. Yet the holidays can also send us into a furry of to-do's and gatherings that can deplete our spiritual nourishment. When you get stuck in your head, in your logical brain, you can lose connection to the center of your body, where this wisdom resides.
How do you stay connected to your center to nourish your spiritual well-being this time of year?
For me, there are moments like candlelight service at church, or the tree lighting in the center of town, sitting around the table with loved ones, and even (especially) a deep conversation with a friend dealing with extra grief during the holidays. These moments, if I get out of my head and rest my attention in my center, nourish my spirit.
This inclusion of what you know in your center is what it means to Be Well Now. The wisdom you know in your body is trustworthy. The moment you shift from your head to your heart during holiday activities, whether you are celebrating by eating, moving, resting, giving, or receiving, is the moment you are Celebrating Well.
What you know in your center gives an activity a sense of meaning and purpose. Meaning is what drives well-being. December is filled with activities with great meaning, providing us an opportunity to practice this whole-person approach to being well. In this way, Celebrating December Well is preparing you for starting the new year well.
Next week, we will focus on how to Start 2025 Well. Today, nourish your spiritual well-being. Pause to consider what you know in your heart about the meaning behind the to-dos on your list. Simply shift your attention from your thoughts and the task to the center of your body. Sense what you know here in your heart. Notice what happens to your energy as you shift to this whole-person nourishment in moments of your daily life.
Share this with someone you know who wants to celebrate December in the Well State.
