In this episode of the Be Well Now Method podcast, I chat with Dr. Donna Bartlett about how you can take Less Medications and Move More.
Donna is a Doctor of Pharmacy and Board-Certified Geriatric Pharmacist (BCGP) with over 20 years of experience in retail pharmacy, over 10 years of experience in outreach programming specializing in older adults medication needs, affordability, and prescription coverage including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance coverages.
Donna's book MedStrong: Shed Your Meds for a Better Healthier You tells of the need to keep medications in check throughout the aging process. Why is this necessary? Overmedication increases side effects that can impact one’s well-being and quality of life, and can cause unintended consequences such as falls, hospitalizations, and traffic accidents. Many individuals remain on medications far longer than necessary, and having medications added when deprescribing a medication may be a better treatment option.
In this episode Donna answers questions about aging, supplements, side effects and more! We explore how reducing medications can lead to improved health outcomes and the role of movement in enhancing well-being. Our conversation emphasizes the need for individuals to listen to their bodies, understand the side effects of medications, and engage in proactive discussions with healthcare providers. The episode also highlights the significance of mindfulness and the impact of supplements on health. Dr. Bartlett shares her expertise as a pharmacist and offers practical steps for organizing medications and empowering patients to take charge of their health.
