Cultural messages can create faux stress about your health. Three ways to recognize and rewire mindsets to activate whole person healing now.
When I had a stressful time in life, my dad used to say: "Life does get tedious sometimes, doesn't it?"
It was his way of normalizing stressful events. It's just part of life. His saying this always made me smile and sigh at this truth.Yet there are ways we make life more tedious than it needs to be. One of the biggest faux stressors I see is working hard to try to do what you know you should to be healthy.
Because we are born with an innate drive to survive so we can thrive, we all want to be healthy. Our cells know how to do this. When being healthy is stressful its a sign of mindsets that have been rewired by cultural messages. Mindsets like more is better or no pain no gain or you need someone to push you limit the ability of your body, brain and heart to work together as they are designed to do.
This creates faux stress. In that stress state, less energy goes into healing. How do you rewire those mindsets? It starts with recognizing when you are being pulled into faux stress about your health.
3 Ways to Recognize Faux Stress About Your Health
✅ Trust your cells want you to be well now. They don't need you to try, they need you to trust. Some days you will experience pain, others comfort. Some days you will be tired, others you will have plenty of energy. Some days you will feel motivated, some days not so much! When you experience these, remind yourself this ebb and flow of how you feel is a normal part of being human.
✅ Remember progression is not linear. When we expect our body to progress linearly, expect habits to stick after doing something for thirty days, or expect a calorie deficit on a tracking app to lead to weight loss, we are creating faux stress. Notice other culturally created expectations surrounding health habits that keep you thinking you need to push harder to make progress when your body is telling you it needs something different.
✅ Retrain your brain to trust your body and heart. When someone else starts telling you how much you need to do, pause and listen to what your body knows now. If its painful or exhausting or leaves you feeling worse not better about yourself, it is not going to lead to progress. Trust what your body and heart know about how much is enough and what is worth the investment in your energy to activate healing now.
Enjoy the freedom that comes from seeing clearly what is faux stress and what is just a normal part of being human in this sometimes tedious life we are living.
